Call. No, not telephone. Call in life. What does it mean?
Vocation -- work -- family -- service . . .
A study done by Duke University of college aged kids (just their own, or others, I don’t know). Question: what’s most important to you in life?
Something like 80% of the responses were money, power, authority.
Over and over again, at the end of life, people who’ve worked long hours at jobs say – wish I’d spent more time with family.
Yet, what about the Call to a life of following Christ?
What does that mean?
Giving up everything we know?
Leaving family and work?
Being martyred, as the early apostles were?
NB: in the story just BEFORE this story (but after Jesus has preached at the synagogue in Nazareth), Jesus has gone to Simon’s house and healed his mother in law. Time warp, but that’s Simon Peter’s MIL and the healing story happens BEFORE Jesus has called Simon Peter to cast the nets and to switch to fishing for people.

What kind of call is that?
How do we know what a “call” is?
Not just for priests, monks, and nuns!
So, what about everyday life?

Baptismal Identity
Changed and transformed in baptism – a constant and continuing process
Living it out day by day in the way that fits and uses your gifts:
Not all a “foot” or an “eye”, etc.
Not even all like Paul, who is SO modest!
So, what does a Call look like?
Not fishing for people (that was metaphor for James, John, Simon Peter and Andrew),
but .... what?
gardening, driving, cooking, playing, reading, advocating for, teaching, encouraging,
In a word: serving, with love. (OK, three words.)
