*Celebration of New Ministry and Installation of T. Birch Rambo as rector of St. Paul’s, Walla Walla (October 5) Bishop Waggoner will install the Rev. T. Birch Rambo as the 23rd rector of St. Paul’s, Walla Walla, on Sunday, October 5 at 4 p.m. The Rt. Rev. Stacy Sauls, bishop of Lexington, will preach. All are invited. The festival color is red.
*United Thank Offering grant application forms available – deadline December 1 The new UTO 2009 grant application form and instructions are available at www.epsicopalchurch.org/UTO. The process has been simplified and consists of five pages of instructions and a five-page application form instead of the previous eight-page form. One more change: each diocese may submit only ONE (1) grant application. Submission of UTO grants to New York must be made from the diocesan office. Therefore, completed applications need to be received in the Bishop’s office no later than December 1 in order to meet UTO’s deadline of January 31, 2009. Women in Ministry – gathering and luncheon (Oct. 17, St. Stephen’s, Spokane) All women of the Diocese are invited to attend a “food, fellowship and formation” gathering on Friday, Oct. 17, just prior to Diocesan Convention. The event begins at 9:30 a.m., with a reflective program led by Evita Krislock, concluding with lunch. It will end in time to move on to the cathedral for registration and the 2 p.m. convention start time. There is no cost, but we do need to have numbers in order to provide enough food. Rosa Gallica closing October 18; final reductions on all merchandise (Paulsen House, Spokane) After three years of successful operation, raising funds for the maintenance of Paulsen House and heightening our awareness of fair trade and environmental sustainability, Gloria Waggoner will be closing the Rosa Gallica boutique on October 18. Everything in the store, except for pottery, art, and clearance items, will be 40% off for the remainder of the season. “Spiritual formation in an Interfaith World” (Oct. 25, St. John’s Cathedral, Spokane) This one day workshop is offered by Spiritus, our diocesan spirituality center known for continually bringing superb speakers to the Diocese. Led by the Rev. Robert Corin Morris (see www.interweave.org), the workshop will look at similarities and differences of the great world faiths and at how an authentically Christian spiritual practice can be enhanced by an understanding of other approaches to the mystery of God. Each week the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer lists one of our parishes or missions, a special diocesan concern, or a particular organization within the church. What are you thankful for? What are your congregation’s needs, concerns and hopes for the coming year? Do you have a special anniversary or occasion that you’ll celebrate? October 12, Pentecost 22: Our 44th Annual Diocesan Convention We pray for our own diocese, meeting this week in Spokane, that our awareness, love and respect for each other continue to grow; that our decisions reflect the best possible stewardship of our shared time, talent and treasure; and that together we may discern the ways in which we are being called to live a scandalous gospel.
October 19, Pentecost 23: Our 44th Annual Diocesan Convention – “Living a Scandalous Gospel” We pray for our own diocese as our convention concludes, that our awareness, love and respect for each other continue to grow; that our decisions reflect the best possible stewardship of our shared time, talent and treasure; and that together we may discern the ways in which we are being called to live a scandalous gospel.

November 16, Pentecost 27: Bishop Jim and Gloria Waggoner, Diocesan Staff, Leaders, and Volunteers Give thanks for their leadership, stewardship and service. Pray for their continuing energy and creativity as together we learn, grow, and serve in Jesus’ name.
November 23, The Last Sunday after Pentecost – Christ the King: Millennium Development Goals Give thanks for our learning about and engagement with the Millennium Development Goals. Pray that we may stay alive to the reality of extreme poverty and be granted hope and courage to continue, knowing that millions of beloved others do so in the face of poverty’s daily toll.
